Excerpt from Football for the Spectator
There is many a spectator who goes to a football game in blissful ignorance, not only of the higher technique of the sport, but of the simple rudiments of the game, and his or her pleasure might be greatly enhanced by attentive reading of the manners and methods of this so popular autumn sport. This year some such preliminary preparation appeals not only to the person who is going for his first time, but, in a measure, to a great many others who have some familiarity with the sport as it used to be.

Football for the Spectator Classic Reprint Walter Camp 9781330021934 Books
This book was written in 1911 over 100 years ago. If you want to learn about the game today, I suggest either an "Idiot's Guide" or "For Dummies".The 1 star review is a bit ridiculous since the book:
1. Was written to explain the game as it was 104 years ago
2. Uses the correct spelling of the time
3. Is authored by father and creator of American Football including the basic concept of a "down".
Don't read this book if you want to understand the game today.
Read this book because it is a brilliant piece of history; it not only shows how the game was watched in its time, but also allows readers today to understand and make connections to the similarities and changes seen in the game today.
