Fiction. Vassily, the voice of Noah Cicero's new novel, is a different sort of insurgent. An insurgent battling abjection, poverty, and depression in a 21st century Middle America rapidly devolving into Third World inscrutability. In his fifth work of fiction, the Rustbelt's voice of defiance puts forth his most anti-heroic message to date, bringing us back to the "homeland" to see that the real insurgency lies within ourselves.

I first read The Insurgent in study hall during my senior year of high school and can distinctly remember the way I felt my focus shift almost entirely, in a matter of seconds, from actively hating myself and everyone around me to feeling deeply connected with the characters in the novel in a manner that made me to feel calm, less alone, and deeply emotional. I laughed out loud a lot while reading this book.

The style also felt exciting to me. It was hard for me to put this book down once I started reading it. I don't know what happened to my copy of this book but once I have more money I am going to order it again and read this book many more times in the future.

The Insurgent Noah Cicero 9780982194539 Books Reviews

this is my favorite cicero book. it seems the most complete and classical in style. it still has the essential cicero panic-tone, but it manages to have a very nice narrative. i have read it twice and will read it many more times. it makes me feel better about myself because i know that there are other unhappy/hopeless people in the world. i also feel like this book will help my sex life. in the book, the main character has sex with a girl who has bad stretch marks. one time when i was about to have sex with a girl, i stopped because the stretch marks freaked me out. i now know i was wrong, and that next time i will push on and have sex with her. freedom!
I've read this book three or four times. The last time I read it I remember feeling really calm after finishing, more calm than I could remember feeling from reading anything else for a long time, probably at least two years. I think the first five or so chapters are really funny. There is an Asian character and another character and they're emotional and make jokes and talk about how sad they feel. Then they find a lot of oxies in a bathroom and go on a quest to sell them. With the money they make they go on a road-trip. Typing this summary I feel like I want to read it again.
