Love in the Time of the Dead has a uniqueness to its premise. Laney, the main character, is not only immune to the bite of a zombie, but a bite of her flesh is fatal… to the zombies. She and her brother, along with a couple of his Army buddies, travel from colony to colony trading skills for supplies. They’re also trying to find someone educated and trustworthy enough to help figure out Laney’s ‘condition’. In the process, love, as stated in the title, comes into play. I’m not against love, or sex, during the zombie apocalypse, but some of the storyline surrounding that aspect of this tale was a bit over-the-top for me.

The greatest thing about this book is the action. The author didn’t hold back at all when it came to the fight scenes. There were times I was actually grinding my teeth from the intensity of it all. The post-apocalyptic world building was spot on as well. I could easily imagine myself running through the woods of Colorado with the rest of the gang, and reaching out to brace myself against a tree after losing my breath. The pacing was touch and go. When the group was on the move, things moved at breakneck speeds, but once the group settled, so did the pacing. The ending? I’ll let you decide where you stand on that. No spoilers here.

Overall, this is a good zombie book with quite a bit of romance and superior zombie action. I’m thrilled to have read it, and I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Wow...
See that's all I was able to say after I finished this book. And its been two days and everytime I think of this one its just wow. My biggest upset about this book, that it's not going to be a series. Once I got to that ending it was as though I was put under the depressed spell. This book had me crying multiple times, wide eyed, and definately sitting on the edge of my seat! The action was intense, and it was pretty bad ass that Laney was just that she was this great heroine who took care of herself but still had help from those around her. But didnt take crap from anyone. This is the kind of heroine I wish were in more love stories. (I would be in heaven if that were true just saying)
Anyways yea she was bad ass the action was awesome. And then the love story. Yea this book has a bit of a love triangle though if you read it, its not really a triangle its CLEAR as day whom shes going to be with that. So the whole time I was just going through the motion yelling at my kindle whenever she slip up and doing something with the wrong one due believe i shed a tear or two over them finally getting together. This book I'll probably read often in that sense that its up there with my other favorites...

I have read a few zombie type book before that I enjoyed, most recently was Flesh and Skin by Kylie Scott as well as a few other apocalypse type books with the undead in them. After reading a lot of fairly generic romance books lately, I felt like a change, so was looking for a good supe or vamp book and came across this zombie romance and with it receiving a LOT of over 4 star reviews thought I would give it a go. And much to my delight is was a gore fest with a bit of a love triangle on the side. Now I am not a fan of love triangle books, but this one is not really a love triangle at all, more of a love isosceles triangle, because one of the guys is not really ever in the mix. And lets just say that I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I could not put it down! The main characters were entertaining, engaging, the story was fairly predictable for an apocalypse book, but I did not care becasue I was so engrossed in the characters lives and struggles and losses that I was completely engaged in the story.

The book follows Laney, a 20 something girl who has survived the apocalypse beside her older brother Jarren and 2 of his childhood friends and army buddies Guist and Mitchell. The unique thing is that Laney in the first few days of the apocalypse was bitten by a "Dead" and discovered that she is not only immune to Dead bites but her blood has the power to bring back the mind of the Dead to human. Unfortunately she can bring back the mind, but the body continues to deteriorate and it is a short reprieve before death. After the initial exposure she also develops a unique sense of smell, and is able to smell the Dead when they are in proximity. This skill has helped her and her team stay alive and ahead of the Dead. Now a few years later of fighting to survive, they understand the importance of getting Laney to the right person, who may be able to do something with her blood. They head for a colony which is lead by Sean, and pretty much walk straight into a leadership takeover event, leaving them again on the run, this time with Sean and his baby daughter and Finn his bodyguard. They make their way to the next colony who happens to have a doctor who has experience working with blood.

To make a long story short, Laney becomes a test subject for the cure of the Dead. Mitchell AKA Derek finally makes his intentions known to the oblivious Laney, who has had a crush on him since she was a kid in high school and he was her older brothers friend. Unfortunately Laney and Sean have this weird sexual tension, even though every time they speak he is an arse. It is not until tragedy strikes that Laney realises who the 'one' is for her, but it may be too late!!!!!...... Of course I'm not going to tell you who gets the girl read the book to find out!!!!!!

I loved Laney, she was so strong and loyal, and she can kick Dead's arse!!!! The relationship with her, her brother and Mitchell and Guist is so lovely to read. They are all so in sync and loyal to one another, they have an easy friendship and camaraderie and it is easy to see that they all care about each other. All the boys are very protective of Laney, and not just because of what her blood could tell them but because she is an awesome person. It is always refreshing to read a book that has a female as the "hero" of the story, a strong powerful woman who knows her place in the world and takes no crap from anyone. Laney is this type of girl, and I really enjoyed reading her story. I would love to read more with these characters, but I do not believe that there are any other books, and that this is a stand alone.

So result is LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!

This action packed adventure with a touch of romance was a fun ride. If I was reading this book for the zombie adventure then I would not have been disappointed. There was a unique storyline with lots of suspense. If I was reading this book for the romance (which the title indicates is a main theme) I would have been slightly disappointed. There was a romance but it seemed forced and not quite fleshed out. There was an attempt at a love triangle but it is never really believable as one of the men is really just unavailable.
